The city of Shakopee, Minnesota declares solidarity with Asian-Americans

Today, the city and the Shakopee Chamber of Commerce condemn the racially-motivated attacks in Atlanta, Georgia that left at least eight people dead, to the strongest extent. On this occasion, we hereby declare our solidarity with Asian-Americans.

Throughout history, they had made enormous contributions to our country, such as George Takei, Michio Kaku, Yo-Yo Ma, Andrew Yang, Connie Chung, Francis Wai, Kelly Marie Tran and Bruce Lee, to name a few.

Hate has no place in our society. An attack against them is an attack to us all. We must strive to work hard and together to combat the malignant epidemic of hate that is borne out of a primal and flawed impulse in comprehending the difference of what they are, and what we are. We want to make it clear that diversity, be it a matter of opinion or that of what we are, is a strength, that is always in the story of America, from the earliest days when our pioneering forefathers landed here to begin their new lives.

We ask you to commemorate the victims who unfortunately had their lives cut short by this senseless tragedy, with a moment of silence. Together, we will mourn the victims of the despicable attack and urge that the perpetrator is to be held maximally accountable in courts of law.
